Charlie Shoemaker is an award-winning documentary photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to his time in South Africa, Charlie spent over a year living in Uganda covering East Africa. In 2014, he was named one of Magnum Photo's 30 under 30.

2016 Charlie won 2nd place in the Portrait and Personality category in the NPPA’S Best Of Photojournalism contest. 
2016 Charlie had an image selected to be included in the American Photography 33  AI-AP ARCHIVE with work in Botswana.  

2015 Charlie was awarded the Magenta Foundation's Flash Forward contest's Bright Spark Award. 

In 2014 Charlie won 3rd Place in the Pictorial category and an Honorable Mention for International News Picture Story on his coverage of Nelson Mandela’s funeral in the NPPA’S Best Of Photojournalism contest. 

Charlie was selected to attend the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2009.
